Sanctuary by Design: How We Turned a Bedroom Into a Moody, Multi-Layered Retreat

At Del Vento & Co, we believe the most meaningful spaces are the ones that feel deeply personal, rooms that don’t just look beautiful, but support the way our clients want to live and feel.

This recently completed bedroom renovation was exactly that.

Our clients came to us wanting a space that felt private, intimate, and calming, a true retreat from the rest of the home. They envisioned more than just a bedroom; they wanted a sanctuary. A place to unwind at the end of the day, slow down, and feel completely at ease. The space also included a small adjoining TV den, which gave us the opportunity to create two connected experiences that each served a different purpose while still feeling cohesive.

The result is a layered, warm, and moody retreat that feels luxurious without losing comfort.

The Bedroom: A Fully Immersive Retreat

For the bedroom, we wanted to create an enveloping feeling, the kind of space that instantly makes you exhale when you walk in.

To achieve this, we color drenched the entire room, painting both the walls and ceiling in Sherwin-Williams’s Emerging Taupe Emerging Taupe.

Color drenching is one of our favorite ways to make a room feel intentional and elevated. By carrying the same tone across all surfaces, the boundaries of the room soften and the space feels more immersive, cozy, and architectural.

Emerging Taupe gave us exactly what we were looking for: warmth, depth, and mood. It has a beautiful earthy undertone that shifts throughout the day, feeling soft and grounding in natural light while becoming richer and more intimate in the evening.

The palette in the bedroom was intentionally tonal with warm taupes, creamy ivories, muted blush tones, soft brass, and caramel velvet. All layered to create quiet visual interest.

Layering Texture for Depth

One of the things that makes this space feel so rich is the amount of texture layered throughout. When working within a soft tonal palette, texture becomes essential. We intentionally mixed materials to create depth and contrast without relying on bold colors.

Throughout the bedroom, you’ll notice a careful balance of:

  • Cane and woven textures

  • Upholstered striped fabric

  • Soft linen bedding

  • Warm velvet accents

  • Brass detailing

  • Patterned upholstery

  • Natural wood tones

Each material brings something different to the space.

The woven cane dresser fronts add organic warmth. The striped upholstered bed introduces subtle pattern. Brass accents provide refinement and a soft glow. The velvet bench grounds the room with a deeper tone and smooth contrast.

None of these elements fight for attention, but together, they create a layered, collected look.

That balance is what makes a space feel finished.

Final Thoughts

This renovation became so much more than a bedroom update. It became a private sanctuary that was designed around rest, comfort, ritual, and intentional living. Every detail was considered, from the custom millwork to the layered textiles to the way light moves across the limewashed walls. The final result feels warm, elevated, and deeply personal. And to us, that’s always the goal.

Designing spaces that feel as good as they look.
