From Builder-Grade Grey to Warm & Inviting: A Bathroom Transformation

There’s nothing wrong with a classic builder-grade grey bathroom… but there’s also nothing memorable about it.

When our clients came to us, their bathroom felt cold and flat with dark grey tile climbing the walls, chrome hardware throughout, and that all-too-familiar cool-toned palette that lacked personality. Their goal was simple: warm it up and make it feel cozy, layered, and elevated.

And that’s exactly what we did.

Softening the Foundation

The biggest visual shift came from addressing the dark grey wall tile. Rather than a full demo, we opted for a microcement finish in a warm neutral beige. This allowed us to completely transform the look and feel of the space without adding visual heaviness.

The microcement created a seamless, spa-like texture that instantly softened the room. The warm undertones replaced the cool grey cast and set the tone for everything else to follow.

A microcement wall finish is a seamless, hand-applied coating that creates a smooth, continuous surface with subtle texture and depth. It has a soft, organic look, similar to plaster or concrete, but feels warmer and more refined. Because it has no grout lines, it gives walls a clean, modern feel while still adding natural movement and character.

Swapping Cool Metals for Warmth

Chrome had to go.

We replaced all existing hardware and plumbing fixtures with an antique bronze finish, which immediately introduced depth and richness. The warmth of the bronze against the neutral backdrop feels intentional and elevated, subtle, but impactful.

From the faucets to the shower trim and cabinet hardware, this finish ties the entire space together.

Layering in Texture & Pattern

To avoid the space feeling flat, we incorporated a neutral patterned wallpaper. The soft, organic motif adds movement and visual interest without overpowering the room.

It’s understated but brings that extra layer of coziness our clients were craving. When paired with the woven pendant and natural accessories, the bathroom now feels curated rather than builder-basic.

Warming Up the Vanity

The cabinetry was another opportunity to shift the temperature of the room. We painted the cabinets a warm beige to harmonize with the microcement walls and swapped the existing pulls for antique bronze hardware.

That simple change transformed the vanity from standard to custom-feeling.

The Result

What was once a cool, grey, builder-grade bathroom is now a warm, calming retreat. The layered neutrals, textural finishes, and thoughtful hardware selections completely changed the energy of the space.

It’s proof that you don’t always need a full gut renovation to make a dramatic impact — sometimes it’s about rethinking tone, texture, and finish.

Warmth changes everything.

BEFORE

The client felt the bathroom leaned a bit too cold and sterile, lacking the warmth and comfort they envisioned for such a personal space. They wanted to soften the overall feel by layering in neutral tones and incorporating natural textures that would add depth and subtle warmth. The goal was to create a more inviting, spa-like atmosphere. One that felt calm, organic, and effortlessly elevated while still maintaining a timeless aesthetic.

AFTER

With just a few intentional updates, we were able to completely transform the feel of the space. By introducing a textured wallpaper, we instantly added depth and softness to the walls. Painting the vanity in a warm light beige helped ground the room and eliminate the stark contrast that once made it feel cold. We swapped in brass hardware for a subtle touch of warmth and elegance, and finished the back wall in a beige microcement to bring in a seamless, organic texture. These minimal yet thoughtful changes worked together to create a bathroom that now feels cohesive, inviting, and beautifully layered.
